How we rank tools

No tool pays for its position. Here is exactly how lists are ordered today.

Browse and category pages

1. Verified first. The maker claimed the page, and a person on our team reviewed it.
2. Then claimed. The maker proved they work there, with an email at the tool's domain or a DNS record.
3. Then listed (added by our editors from public information).
4. A to Z inside each group.

Awards: Tool of the day and of the week

"#1 Tool of the day" and "#1 this week" come only from upvotes in that window: the current UTC day, or the last 7 days. A tool needs at least 3 upvotes in the window to be shown. Editors never pick winners, and nobody can pay for an award. One vote per person per tool; you can take your vote back.

Upvotes don't change the order of category and browse lists yet. When there are enough of them to mean something, we'll add them and update this page with the date.

Alternatives pages

The alternatives listed for a tool are chosen by our editors for new listings, or suggested by the maker and checked by us. They're shown in that order.

Sponsored placements

If we ever sell a placement, it will be labelled "Sponsored" on the page and its link will carry rel="sponsored". It will never change the order of the normal list.
